The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” visa bans imposed by the United States on five Europeans working on combating digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.

European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe such as the French president charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans were placed on individuals that were at the heart of campaigns to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
